Blog # 3: ELA standards, CPALMS Toolkit and Newsletter.
The ELA standards are set to create an expectation of how technology should be used in order to teach certain complex skills in each subject matter. I was actually surprised that I could see myself accomplishing a lot of them in my future as a teacher. I would say that this is because almost all of them require good skills in conveying concepts in different manners using technology. I have always been good with communication skills, and feel better if I have a technological tool to back that skill up. I like that these standards require teachers to use audiovisual forms, social media, and other kinds of tools to convey complex concepts that otherwise would be a little bit boring to transmit to students.
In other news, the CPALMS Toolkit is a toolkit that was designed in Florida to give teachers standards for each grade and subject matter. I chose the 9-12 grades because I wish to teach older students in the future and the Social Science standards. I was surprised to see that the website included questions for the students to answer so they can see if they are holding to the standards of knowledge in social sciences in Florida. I think this is a great way to make sure that democratic equality is being met in the classroom. As a teacher, I would use it as a resource to create my own assessments of my classrooms and how I am doing teaching my students the basic knowledge they need to be competitive with other schools in the state.
As for my Newsletter, I really enjoyed this assignment. I learned how to create a creative Newsletter in Word with word art and other formatting tools. I also explored an idea I have been nurturing since a while ago. I have always wanted to create a class about self-growth and development, this assignment helped me squeeze my creativity and finally come up with what I would include in that course. I also discovered that I need to work on my visual digital design skills because although I really loved my newsletter because of the content I created I know it could look better.

Hi Maria Sofia! I agree that most of the ELA standards do not seem as difficult as I imagined they would be. I think your newsletter looks really great! I think it is very clear and easy to follow. The colors you used throughout also make it pop!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea for your course! Self-growth and development are so important, and I wish I had a class for that! Your newsletter is so easy to follow, and the colors you picked stick with the idea for your course really well!
